Revitalizing Entrepreneurship One Cup at a Time

1 Million Cups (1MC) is a nationwide program run by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs; a simple way to engage business people with big ideas in their community to help fuel growth and prosperity. Starting in October 2014, the Riverside chapter of the 1MC program meets each week and offers local entrepreneurs an opportunity to present their startups to a diverse audience of mentors, advisors, entrepreneurs, students, builder and makers. Three local businessmen, Ralph Richardson, Jay Goth and Dwayne Nelson, recognized the value and potential in 1 Million Cups and worked together to organize our local chapter.

Presenters prepare a 6 minute educational presentation and engage in 20 minutes of feedback and questioning after they present. Entrepreneurs are able to gain insight into possible ways they can improve their businesses, gather real-time feedback, connect with a community that truly cares about their progress and walk away feeling like they have advanced their business.

The audience also learns a great deal from the presentations. Whether this is through passively listening or deeply engaging with the entrepreneurs, there is much to learn every week from these dynamic and diverse presentations.

1 Million Cups is a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs to tap into an extremely valuable resource; mentorship. Entrepreneurs face many challenges. By discussing these issues and asking questions, entrepreneurs are able to brainstorm with others who have been in their shoes. Born from the idea that communities are built on 1 million cups of coffee, another million cups of coffee could fundamentally change the culture of entrepreneurship in the community.

Riverside is a supportive community that embraces collaboration and entrepreneurial spirit. 1 Million Cups Riverside is sponsored by Coworking Connection, Riverside I/O and InSoCal Connect.

1 Million Cups was initiated by The Kauffman Foundation, a nonprofit based out of Kansas City with the vision of helping individuals attain economic independence and achieve entrepreneurial success. Riverside is dedicated to making valuable partnerships and connecting with resources like the Kauffman Foundation to provide an abundance of support for startups and business people.

The program takes place every Wednesday morning from 9:00-10:00am at Altek Media, 21803 Cactus Ave. If you are interested in helping “caffeinate” Riverside, click here for more information about 1 Million Cups.
