The Spirit of the Entrepreneur Awards program was founded in 2003 with one purpose - to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the Inland Empire's top entrepreneurial business leaders. Since that time, more than 250 entrepreneurs have been honored as finalists and 100 have been bestowed the coveted Spirit Award. This year’s elegant dinner and awards show was a sellout. Over 760 entrepreneurs, business and community leaders arrived in black tie attire at the newly renovated Riverside Convention Center.

Spirits were high as winners from years past returned to present the 2014 awards to enthusiastic finalists. Several Spirit Award finalists represented Riverside with pride. Local Manufacturing Company AMA Plastics took home the Spirit Award for Contract Manufacturing. AMA Plastics makes products for both the medical and pharmaceutical industries. The business friendly environment and excellent utility rates are what attracted AMA Plastics to Riverside over 3 years ago. As he accepted the award, owner Mike Atchison spoke of the early days, when he began his career sweeping floors for what is now a booming business with 600 employees. Here is a video of Mark Atchison’s Spirit Award acceptance speech.

In addition to AMA, the City of Riverside would like to congratulate local finalists Ray, Shaun, Nicole (Clesceri) Russell, and Angel Sanchez Jr. from Phenix Technology Inc., Cheryl Young and Jennifer Hall from Ejay Filtration Inc., and Gene Sherman from Vocademy-the Makerspace. These Riverside companies were all recognized for their excellence and entrepreneurial success.
