The Customers Speak: City Government Listens

The Streamline Riverside Initiative is the culmination of efforts based on feedback from businesses, residents and community partners to create a smoother customer service experience. In May of 2016 City Council approved a package of amendments to Riverside’s Zoning Code to streamline the development and permitting review process, eliminate outdated standards and restrictions and reduce processing times. Since then, the City has continued to roll out new and revised policies and procedures to enhance the Streamline mission—creating a Development Review Committee for comprehensive review, implementing uniform review times across departments and offering expedited plan check options. And there’s more to come: this summer the City will unveil its One Stop Shop offering customers a centralized location for development and permitting services at City Hall. Development of new state-of-the art permitting software will allow customers to check the status of plans remotely and make internal communication between departments easier.

How does Streamline Riverside Help Businesses?

  • Faster entitlement, permitting and inspections
  • Increased certainty and predictability in the process
  • Greater transparency and better communication with staff
  • Reduced project costs—where time is money, Streamline can make a significant impact

Stay tuned for information on Streamline Phase 2: an even deeper redesign of City processes with commitment across departments from Public Works to Public Utilities to add staff, improve transparency and utilize feedback to ensure our customers have the best possible experience at City Hall.
